New chapters soon, I hope

Wow, I feel bad. I posted an apology with the last chapter of “Echoes of the Past” that I posted, because it had been nine months since I had posted the previous one. Well, it has now been fifteen months since I have posted any fiction to AoVD.

What happened? The grandbaby was born and took over my life. Until recently, I haven’t had the time to write, or even read, fiction. I barely managed to get here to keep up with the day-to-day work of the site.

Some of you might ask, “Well, all you had to do with “Echoes of the Past” and “Stranded” was revise them and post, since they’ve already been written; why didn’t you post on either of them?” Right before the baby was born, I had resolved to alternate posting a chapter of each. Once she was here, I found I couldn’t bear to look at “Stranded.” Those of you who have read that fic so far should understand why.

By the time the baby had gotten old enough that I could brave “Stranded” again, my laptop had died. From December until August, I either had to use the house desktop, which offered me no privacy, or the work laptop, which I had to be very careful about what I saved to it.

Now that I have a new laptop, and the baby no longer lives in my house, I have struggled to get back to my creative life. It’s been hard. I’m out of practice. I’ve managed to write some new words on a fic being posted elsewhere, but I’ve had the most success reviewing fics for upcoming addition to our fan fiction archive here.

Today, it occurred to me that maybe the best way to get back to writing would be to get back to revising and posting chapters of “Echoes of the Past” and “Stranded.” So, I’m going to try it. I decided to post my rather long-winded explanation here rather than at the beginning of whichever chapter I post next. Wish me luck.
