How this works :  Each contributor adds a paragraph to the story building on what has been written before.  Each contributor should only add a paragraph or two at a time and we'll see where the story goes.

  Seven years after the crash.

His breath hitches in his chest, caramel skin flushed with fever.  He can feel the dart, a sharp burning  in his upper back, near his spine.  He reaches, groping over his shoulder to no avail.  The dart lies just out of reach.  He stumbles against the rough stone wall bruising and sloughing tender skin off shoulder and upper back.  Falling to his knees, he cries out in frustration and drags his broad back against the jagged and uneven wall.  The dart falls free but its poison remains.

His hands hit something rough, and he realizes he's down.  Rolling over, he groans as the wound in his back flares in protest against the hard ground.  The sky is black, but he can't tell whether the stars are out.  He lost so much in Slam; but he never thought he would miss those stars.

But even the dark of the sky is eclipsed as something even darker looms over him.  Click.  Click click.  His dulled mind sharpens for just a moment, and the clicks speed up into a humming chirr.  For a moment, he believes in stars again; then the bright points resolve themselves into random streaks of light reflected on a full set of razor teeth.

He closes his eyes and hears a shriek like crazed whalesong.

After a moment, he realizes that the shrieking is his own.  The poison from the dart had managed to work its way into his spinal fluid, creating a pain more intense than any he had ever felt.  He was no stranger to pain, to be sure, but this utter agony was worse than anything.  He could only liken it to when he was tortured on his first day in Slam by a group of fellow inmates who, to initiate him into the 'population,' beat him within an inch of his life with an assortment of homemade razor-tipped weapons, and then drenched him in gasoline.  He could remember only the stinging sensation that had filled his every sense in those long, terrifying minutes of abuse.

That was nothing compared to the pure pain that he was feeling now.  It dimmed the fear of the creature that had taken fleet from his cries, and made him shivver involuntarily.  He vowed that if he recovered, he who had inflicted such pain would pay.  He would pay dearly.

Shrouded in a cloak of darkness, she waits patiently.  Soon, the excruciating poison will subside, granting blessed relief.  But, he will be numb… paralyzed.   For seven years she waited… seven years figuring out a way to overcome the Juggernaut of the universe.  What are a few moments more to see this through?

Gotcha!

She shudders, barely able to contain her fervor as she watches him writhe on the concrete ground.

 Careful.

Finally… he lies still.

Patience. Don’t move.  She says it over and over in her head like a mantra.

Agonizing minutes pass.  But, maybe they are mere seconds.  She feels a droplet of sweat on the tip end of her nose, dangling there.  It begins to itch.

Don’t… fucking… move.  Almost!

He lies still on the cold, hard ground, his mind thinking a million different thought, his brain sending a million different messages to his disobedient limbs.  The worst of the pain has left him, but he is still completely unable to move.

She watches with an unhealthy joy as the bulk of Richard Riddick lay helplessly on the hot-top, with no way to defend himself against whatever she'd want to do with, or to him.  Anything I want to do with him, she thinks, anything at all.  Suddenly, the power-hunger overtakes her good sense.

Slowly, she steps out of her hiding place and moves to crouch before him.  She pushes back the hood that covers her face and hair.

Silver eyes widen as they meet asure.

Her hair grew out, he thinks absurdly.  I thought she was dead.

She leans closer.  There is no humor in her smile.  No humanity.

"I told you I wouldn't die for you, Riddick," Carolyn Fry hisses.

The look in her eyes… not Carolyn, can’t be Carolyn.  Not this maddened creature.

The pain spreading from the poison causes his muscles to spasm, agony like he’s never endured.  He isn't even capable of voicing the pain any longer, can only think beyond it to the end when death might free him from it.

She caresses his face as a lover might, but no lover had ever gazed at him with such pure hatred; death was there, luminous, but she wouldn’t be letting it claim him any time soon.

He looks dazed and she knows he's trying to figure out if he's hallucinating.  By all rights, she should be dead.  It was just dumb luck that the creature was attacked by another and dropped her into the crevasse.  She laid there, bleeding and screamed when she heard the sound of the skiff taking off.

How the hell-?

Black waves are closing in and the last thing he sees is the face of a dead woman.

"Morning Sunshine," her voice was cold, calculating.  "You've been out for a while."

His entire body ached.  The floor was hard, and unforgiving.  Much like the woman standing above him.  The restraints holding him down were jagged, heavy, and entirely unnecessary; escaping would entail getting up, which could prove difficult given the current lack of feeling in the lower half of his body. He cleared his throat, trying to find his voice.

She leaned down, whispering in his ear. "I've been meaning to catch up with you alone."

The echoing words from a time long ago. But this time the roles were reversed. And the unrestrained part was out of place. For some reason, even after the pain had subsided to a dim but irritation throbbing in his head, he still refused to admit that this time he was the one who was afraid. At least to himself.

Carolyn seemed to look right through him, though, as she sat back on her heals and let her head fall back while letting out a loud scornful laugh that reverberated within the walls of the cold empty room.

Riddick laid his head back down on the floor, too tired from fighting the pains, and to dizzy to focus on anything.

Only one clear thought entered his mind before darkness once again dragged him back into the bliss of unconsciousness:

The stars hadn’t been out that night she had been snatched form his arms by the creature. No wonder no lucky star was shining on him now. Only her vengeance.
